About the Imprint
The WordFish Group
An independent publisher based in Basel, Switzerland, releasing historical fiction anchored in primary scholarship.
Editorial Mission
The WordFish Group publishes historical fiction that is both serious about narrative and serious about evidence. Every novel on the list is built from primary source material and from the current state of academic debate in its field, with scholarly references documented in back matter.
The imprint’s editorial position is analytical rather than generative: research tools and databases are used to verify and cross-check source material; an author writes and decides. The working methodology for the current series is set out in detail at amarnamysteries.com/methodology.
The list is small and focused by design. Our aim is a short shelf of well-made books, each grounded in its period, each readable on its own.
The Company
The WordFish Group GmbH was founded in Basel in 2016. It is a private Swiss limited liability company, registered in the commercial register of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. The imprint’s current list is The Amarna Mysteries, a quartet of historical crime novels by A.J. Tilke with a companion short-story anthology, publishing in 2026 and 2027.
